Helloooo there, my name is Maggie Fok as you might know already, I'm a student currently studying in Communication Designs at QUT in Brisbane, Australia. Even though I do live in a first world country it still does dishearten me to find that there can be still many injustices and cruelity that happen on a day to day bases. But what saddens me more is that many of us out there live in such sheltered lifestyles that they don't do anything about it, when they have the power to produce greater things from it. It is not because of the fact that they don't care, it is simply because they don't know. This what I would like to change.
Instead of the world consisting of hermits, I would like everyone out there to know the hardship and understand their neighbours. By neighbours I do not mean Mr Willson next door, I mean the "crazy old man" we see on the street, the drunkard in the pub, the doped out guy in the nightclub, the kids who are sniffing paint and petrol in the park, etc. Before we make judgments we need to know the story behind their actions, and to stop them we need to make them understand what they are doing and the consequences that it has and why they are doing it. And we need to have the compassion to help these people and not just walk over them.
I would like to educate everyone in their hermit world that these people are real and they do what they do for a reason. Instead of whinging to their local member of parliament (who probably has never even walked a step out of their white collared middle class suburbs) to clear them out of their sight, they should take action into their own hands and do what they can to help the people who are less fortunate.
