About Me

Hi there! My name is Laura and I am really excited to be volunteering in Ghana with YCI. I recently graduated from the University of Victoria, earning a Bachelor of Science in economics with a minor in political science. I am working as a research analyst for the BC Ministry of Advanced Education until the end of March. During university, I was an active member of the Economics Course Union and the Model United Nations club. I currently volunteer with Literacy Victoria, tutoring adult learners.

I love to travel and learn about different cultures. I am looking forward to going to Africa for the first time as I have travelled mostly to European countries. Taking an elective about Africa while on a university exchange in Brussels sparked my interest in the continent and I have wanted to go there ever since. I am interested in global development issues and took a few courses in political and economic development during my undergrad. I am inspired by my parents who share my love of travelling and who have been volunteering abroad for many years. I hope that my experience in Ghana will help me decide what to pursue in the future.
