About me
My name David Clarke I am currently an undergraduate student perusing studies in Political science at York University in Toronto. In 2008, eleven high school students and I took place in a project called FACTS, Fashion Arts and Creativity By Talented students, the project is designed to help foster young creative minds and build self esteem,It is a project that I now work with. one year later in 2009, at age eighteen, I decided, after my own experiences, that homophobia within families was a major issue, I decided to put my energies into creating change for young LGBT people and came up with the concept now adapted by SASOD ( Society Against Sexual orientiation Discrimination) . I then became one of the youngest member of SASOD, one of Guyana’s leading advocacy groups for LGBT people. In 2010 I was selected to be one of 300 new action partners in the Oxfam international youth partnerships program. Later in 2010 I attended the 15th session of the human rights council in Geneva, Switzerland, there i was as asked to be apart of a historic high level panel on ending criminal laws and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) along side the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights, the United states deputy secretary of state and a few other civil society atavists.
One day, I hope that all young people will have equal opportunities and be protected regardless of the colour, race, creed, or sexuality. I also believe strongly in respect, if we respect each other that will give way for us to understand each other, when we understand and appreciate each other we can finally work well together. Respect is something that will most defiantly contribute to a peaceful, equitable and sustainable world,
