About me
My commitment to social justice has guided my career path towards working with communities to address the broad social, political, and economic forces underlying health inequities in Canada and around the world.
I believe that youth voice and action are necessary for meaningful community development and social change. I’m a big fan of Freirian critical pedagogy. I sum up my approach to working with youth through the motto: ENGAGE the mind, body, and heart • PROVOKE curiosity about self and world • EXPLORE complex social and personal issues • INGITE positive change!
Most of my work has focused on children and young people’s experiences in a world with HIV and AIDS. I have supported youth engagement in the global HIV response through my volunteer work with the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA), working on the XVI International AIDS Conference Youth Programme, coordinating Plan International’s youth delegation for the XVII International AIDS Conference, and contributing to the World AIDS Campaign’s toolkit to help young people mobilize for Universal Access.
I have a Master of Health Sciences in Health Promotion from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Family and Social Relations from the University of Guelph.
