About me
I am Publisher/Owner of The Victoria Press, an academic publishing house in northern Indiana. The main areas in which we publish are the humanities, with a special focus on the social and behavioral sciences.
In 2009, the "Focus On Fair Trade" annual scholarly anthology series in fair trade studies was launched. The first title in this series is The Global Fair Trade Reader, edited by renowned expert in indigenous rights and fair trade tourism, Deborah McLaren. The 2010 volume will have as its theme "Fair Trade and War / Fair Trade and Conflict," to focus on the issue of how fair trade may be carried out under circumstances of extreme or low-grade conflict, in areas such as Palestine, Afghanistan, Congo, Kosovo, Myanmar, Georgia, Sudan, Haiti or Iraq.
Currently being organized is the Modern Islamic Studies Library, containing several titles by outstanding scholars dealing with subjects as wide-ranging as experiences of Muslim women immigrants to Latino Muslim identity. This series will be introduced in the fall of 2009.
I am also a burgeoning film/video producer with an interest in bringing social, economic and political justice issues to the screen (through theatres, TV, the internet or games). The intersection of cultural entrepreneurship and social action is my main interest, and I am currently finishing a BFA in media studies, preparing to pursue a MBA/MFA in media management/media studies, and a further MA in a field related to film and management. My goal is to make films which entertain and educate, and help to collapse the space between creator and consumer in order to empower audiences to act in support of social justice.
