Kosovo Youth Network
Short history
The Kosovo Youth Network (KYN) is an independent, multi ethnic body representing 100 youth centers and youth organizations throughout Kosovo. Its mission is to develop the capacity of youth to address their needs and to become effective actors for a free, open, democratic civil society in Kosovo.
The KYN was set up in 2001 as part of the Youth Post Conflict Participation Program, implemented by the International Rescue Committee and funded by UNDP. Its foundations were laid during the Kosovo Youth Congress held in June 2001, and its structure and goals were refined during a series of meetings of youth from all over Kosovo during the autumn and winter of the same year.
The goals of the KYN are to increase the capacity of youth groups in Kosovo; to strengthen cooperation, coordination and the exchange of ideas between youth groups and organizations, both within and outside Kosovo; to promote volunteerism and lastly to implement activities that address the priority issues as identified in the “Youth Action Plan” developed during 2001, these being drug abuse amongst youth, unemployment, violence/lack of security and public health.
KYN Organizational Structure
KYN Board of Directors has been formed by representatives of youth centers and youth groups, elected in the KYN General Assembly – Youth Congress while representatives of Department of Youth - Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and UNDP are advising members with no right to vote. Board of Directors is responsible to develop KYN regulations and strategies until the coming year Youth Congress. Boartd of Directors meets at least once a month to plan and review KYN activities.
KYN President has been elected by Board of Directors. KYN President is responsible to implement plans and policies of the General Assembly and Board of Directors.
Administrative body consist a multiethnic body and is responsible to prepare agendas, to distribute information, to compile reports and evaluations on KYN activities and perform the everyday job related to KYN activities. KYN President supervises the administrative body.
