About Me   About Me
I trained as a doctor at University College London Medical School and following junior posts in London teaching hospitals (Kings College, Royal Brompton) and obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, commenced as a Specialist Registrar on the training scheme in Cardiology based at Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals. Having completed almost 3 years out of the 5-year scheme, I have taken a research sabbatical to train in cardiovascular epidemiology and pursue a career in academic cardiology, in order to focus on the application of epidemiology to clinical policy. I recently completed a MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and am now reading for a PhD at UCL with support from the British Heart Foundation under Professor Harry Hemingway and Professor Sir Michael Marmot. My aspirations are
- Consultant Cardiologist integrating academic epidemiological research into an evidence-based, multidisciplinary general cardiac unit focusing on preventative acute cardiac care and patient-centered chronic disease management models
- Health policy development, implementation and evaluation at the interface of primary and secondary care; collaboration with primary care and public health, and other regional cardiac units to form clinical networks
- Research programme into the global burden of cardiovascular diseases, especially in cost-effective prevention and control and resulting policy implementation in low-middle income countries
- Teaching and curriculum development in cardiology and epidemiology/public health at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
