About Me

Hello, my name is Julia Mckaig and I am preparing to go overseas to Tanzania to do developmental work with a group called Youth Challenge International. I currently am attending Dalhousie University as a first year Arts and Sciences student and attending professional dance training six days a week. In the spare time I have I am working, but it is impossible for me to make enough money on my own, so I’m going to need all the support I can get.

I will either be going to Morogoro or Zanzibar, either of which would be absolutely amazing! Our development work will focus on issues such as:

* Environmental education
* Gender-specific programs on health, social issues, and creative projects (ie: Girls Club/Boys Club)
* Income generation projects
* Support and education for people living with HIV
* Using sports to build teamwork, communication, and self-confidence among young people
* English literacy
* Legal systems and rights
* Creative activities such as art, drama, music, dance and photography to help young people express themselves and their goals for the future.

I will have freedom within the program to create my own projects as well.

I am scheduled to leave at the end of April/ beginning of May. Time is quickly slipping away, so any kind of support you can give me will be much appreciated!
