An intelligent, dynamic, motivated and passionate young man, Olamide is an example of a progressive, forward thinking and optimistic Nigerian youth. He attended the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he majored in Human Nutrition and graduated in 2010. His foray into advocacy and NGOs began in 2003 when he attended a Computer Training Programme at Educare Trust, Nigeria – a NGO with various areas of focus including HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaigns, Environmental Sustainability, Youth Empowerment, Youth Tobacco Smoking Prevention Programs etc. This NGO opened his eyes and created a hunger in him that has yet to be quenched. He stayed at the end of his Computer Training at become a Volunteer at Educare Trust where he took part in all the programs at the Educare Trust Exhibition Centre where he developed skills and gained experience in Public speaking, Making Presentations, Program Planning and Implementation, Advocacy, Organizing Seminars and Conferences etc. At Educare Trust, he was awarded with a Certificate of Achievement in 2004 and the highly coveted Educare Trust-Liquid Foods Prize awarded for Dedication in 2005. He gained admission into the prestigious University of Ibadan in 2006 and held various leadership positions as an undergraduate. He was a member of the Press Organization in his Hall of Residence where he became the News Editor in his first year. He displayed his administrative and public relation skills when he became the Public Relations Officer of the Association of Nutrition Science Students of the University of Ibadan and later the President of the same organization. He was also the Head of Directorate (Logistics), Dianoia Foundation. He became involved in Tobacco Control especially Youth Tobacco Prevention Programmes when he was at Educare Trust and has been performing excellently in this area of public health – organizing talks and awareness campaigns to teenagers and youths within Ibadan, Nigeria. He is especially involved in Educare Trust’s marking of the annual World No Tobacco Day (WNTD). His activities in Youth Tobacco Prevention Campaign was recognized and he was one of the few African selected on a scholarship to the Global Youth Meet on Tobacco Control (GYM) as a Delegate and as a Youth Participant to the World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) held at Mumbai, India in 2009. At the Conference, he had the opportunity to speak when he presented the Africa Region’s Conference Resolutions to the GYM Conference organizers. He was also an active participant at the First Nigerian Smoke Free Conference held in 2010 and organized by SmokeFree Foundation He has organized Public Awareness Campaigns in Ogun and Oyo States of Nigeria. In 2011, he organized an intensive Tobacco Awareness Campaign in the rural areas of Rivers State, Nigeria where he educated thousands of teenagers and youths as well as high-risk youths on the adverse effects on cigarette smoking. He has also improved the health status of women in Akpabu Communty in Rivers State by educating then and donating Insecticide treated Mosquito Nets (ITNs) to every household in the Community. He has been selected as a Delegate to the World Conference on Tobacco or Health to be held at Singapore in March 2012. He is presently rounding up his mandatory National Youth Service Corps Programme which ends in February 2012 and plans to start his own NGO- Towards Better Health Initiative (TaBHi) which would have Research, Education and Advocacy as its areas of focus. He also plans to obtain a MSc in Human Nutrition and a Master in Public Health (MPH) soonest.
