Joe is an active Certified Entrepreneurship Training Instructor delivering NFTE’s instructional train-the-trainer program “NFTE University” to educators throughout the U.S. and abroad. Joe is also a Certified Program Manager of the C.E.E.D. “Jump Right In” program from Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Development of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Between 2000 and 2005 he developed and ran the Institute for Youth Enterprise as a pilot initiative of Mass Mentoring Partnership. The IYE was a resource center featuring proven “best practices” in youth enterprise development. Aspiring young urban entrepreneurs participated in seminars, internships, and multiple “mentoring moments” designed to link them with Greater Boston’s business, professional and academic communities. Qualified participants were invited to become “Entrepreneurs-In-Residence” in the IYE business incubator. During this time he has served as the NFTE New England Division’s Alumni Services Director providing one-on-one support services for those who have complete NFTE’s Youth Entrepreneurship programs. Joe also served as the Director of The Mass Mentoring Partnership’s PATHWAYS Initiative between 1999 and 2006. This long-term mentoring program providing life skills and economic self-sufficiency training to 36 Boston area youth. Conceived by MENTOTR, The national mentoring Partnership, PATHWAYS featured an equity-based component rewarding Participants with cash incentives for successful completion of several far-reaching benchmarks throughout their high school years. Throughout the 1990’s Joe served as Director of the Babson College Partnership with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. During this time he was a member of the development staff managing reunion class giving and major gift prospects. Since 1977 Mr. Mahoney has been involved in institutional advancement, fundraising consulting, and direct marketing/database management. For 13 years he was at Babson College as the Director of Alumni Relations and Alumni Advancement Officer. He has served as consultant to a diverse client base including Catholic Relief Services, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, The Christopher’s, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, Spina Bifida Assoc. of America, Citizens for Limited Taxation, and the Merrimack River Watershed Council. He has been a board member of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education’s Early College Awareness Committee, Babson Alumni Club of Boston, The Mass Mentoring Partnership's Economic Self-Sufficiency Committee, Piers Park Sailing Center The Boston Initiative, Greater Boston Committee for UNICEF, New England Direct Marketing Association, Council for the Advancement & Support of Education, Sports Museum of NE, The Infinite Odyssey, and Greater Boston B.S.A. Explorer Council. He is 1974 graduate of Babson College with a BSBA in Marketing and Organizational Behavior. He lives in the western suburbs of Boston and enjoys sailing, fishing, bicycling, and ice hockey.
