About Me |
Anthropocentric activities have endangered sustainability of the our planet, mainly due to excessive use of limited resources, their unequal distribution and other activities that have changed chemical composition atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere. This has exponentially destructed basis of our life supporting system keeping our own existence in danger. People often forget that they are part of an integrated natural system and most of its elements are dependent to many others. People usually define sustainable development in relation with environment and disregard society, economy and human dimensions associated. Whenever something is invented, it is tested in real life situations ignoring potential impacts on society and overlooking the people’s needs. The neo-liberal market economy prevalent in the globe has created poverty traps in third-world countries like Nepal. People on earth are increasingly becoming materialistic and are driven by quantitative growth achieved through over-night change strategies, which intervene life cycle of the natural system. This has definitely saved time and increased wealth for handful people but has irreversibly damaged basis of sustainability.
I strongly believe that the world can be changed as a collective impact of many individual initiatives respecting associated socio-economic and environmental values, which are supported by realistic long-term strategies. It is better to prevent oneself from acquiring a disease rather than curing the disease. Similarly, while dealing with a problem, we should act on its causes and not just on its symptoms. We should also comprehend that there are limited resources on earth which needs to be used wisely and effectively. In addition, new inventions should be made according to the needs of humankind and not because we know how to invent them. We should go for quality driven development and not just quantity. Youths are today’s energizers and tomorrow’s holders, so they should be given the opportunities to act for developing a sustainable and qualitative world society.
We should exchange our ideas with other fellows, learn from them and lecturers, for a more efficient way of achieving the future sustainable world society, and apply the lessons we learn at both the local and national level in our own country to promote global sense of social responsibility emphasizing the fact “THINK GLOBALLY BUT ACT LOCALLY”.
