About Me |
I like to think of salsa dancing when I think of my life. On the go! However, their are occasional - salient - moments when things go slow. The first half of my life, I grew up in Bell Gardens, a neighborhood cozily angled between East L.A. and Compton. The latter half, I grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. In high school, I took a two-hour bus ride to my beloved high school, Notre Dame. There my activities ranged across the following: server/host (Nicola's Kitchen), runner (cross-country & track), activities coordinator (student government), Cadet Commander (Civil Air Patrol), researcher (Independent Studies in Science), and youth advocate (California Youth Connection).
Thankfully, I got admitted to Stanford, honed my listening skills, and launched into more activites: president (dorm goverment), older youth advocate (California Youth Connection - I stuck with it), instructor (public speaking and student initiated child welfare course), and fellow (Civil Rights Summer). After my fellowship with Civil Rights Summer, I was inspired to take a year off to take on a "real" job in the social justice field. So now I'm a staffer at the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights/Education Fund. Its 2001, I'm living the bachelor life in Washinton DC and life is good.
