About me
I grew up in the country in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. I have always appreciated the natural world and have dedicated my life to protecting the environment. I am currently working for Cape Breton University as a mine water researcher, where the main focus of our research is remediation of abandoned and flooded mine sites. But my real passion is endangered species, namely turtles. I hope to help out any way I can this coming year in Costa Rica where I will have the opportunity to work with a marine conservation and research organization. I will have the pleasure of helping to protect the world’s most endangered species of sea turtle, the Eastern Pacific Leatherback! These guys are the largest of all turtles, measuring up to 1.75 meters in length! They have been around for 90 million years, but climate change threatens their survival.
