 About Me |
Itir was born in Izmit in Western Turkey in 1977. She has started her youth activities in civil society in her high school days at Notre Dame de Sion French High School in Istanbul. She became a youth activist at the leading youth NGO in Turkey, Youth for Habitat/Turkey while she was studying journalism and communication at Galatasaray University in Istanbul. She volunteered and worked in several multistakeholder projects for youth capacity building (with ICT) and local democracy in national level. She has represented youth in international processes such as the World Summit on Information Society. During her master studies at Université Libre de Bruxelles on international politics, she started her researcher career in e-democracy and e-participation. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the University of Helsinki where she is researching on the political impacts of ICT. She is also lecturing there on information society, e-citizens, social media, and alternative media and democracy. She has been speaking and training in several international conferences, seminars, forums about youth policies, capacity building, and new technologies.
