About Me

Islam Khaskheli has been involved with an indigenous form of Pakistani TfD for the past five years. This theatre is an amazingly effective tool for social change in village and urban communities of Pakistan. Common people every where are highly influenced after watching their own children perform plays regarding their daily life issues.
Islam has trained under Khalid Ahmed (theatre teacher at NAPA Karachi), Fouzia saeed (social activist and writer of TABOO), Mehmood Bhatti of Tehrik Niswan, Mansoor Saeed (actress sania saeed’s father), late A.G Chandio from Hyderbabd as well as the famed Muhammad Waseem of Interactive Resource Centre Lahore.

 Currently I am working as “Theatre coordinator” at Indus Resource Center khairpur from August 2005 , at IRC I am conducting theatre workshops, arranging cultural programs, managing extra-curriculum activities in IRC supported school at khairpur as well in Sehwan region, and has formed 10 theatre groups and performed 400 theatres for the different projects.
• ESRA: in January & February 2005, I arranged and conducted 30 theatre performances on the issues of HIV/aids, literacy, child labor, Hepatitis and mother’s & child’s health in two sub-districts of khairpur district.
• Save the children UK: in this project I have formed 5 theatre groups of boys and girls in khairpur. These groups are doing theaters on their own issues and finding solutions to resolve them.
• JSI: in this project we have formed a play on the issue of reproductive health and performed 5 theatres in the district of sukkur, this project was funded by JSI and PAIMAN.
• The Asia Foundation (FAFEEN): I have conducted 16 theatres performances including 3 trainings in khairpur and shikarpur regarding voter registration, the aspects of every citizen’s right to vote, a proper registration process, as well as the consequences of not voting are all part of these theatres. I have delivered these 16 theatres within a span of 30 days from May 15th – June 15th 2007.

 I also worked in Action aid Pakistan DA: 12, as a cultural focal person from November 2002 to April 2006, in this period I was responsible to arrange theatre performances, to give the direction of theatres, to make the film documentaries on the social issues and cultural traditions, to convince the community with the use of reflect circle, and to conduct the theatre workshop at their schools in UC layari district khairpur.

• I have also formed, Indus theatre group ( cultural organization) is established in November 2002, has been working under the vision of a society In which every person knows and understands about his/her rights, issues, challenges and to take conscious efforts for solving them up to the best his/her capacity.
Indus theater group is using different types of theatres as channel of sensitizing and raising awareness on various social issues among communities. Indus theatre group writes, directs and performs plays and skits all by itself on various subjects at different locations in all over the Pakistan.
