About me
Nooranie Muthaliph (21) a young and energetic youth activist and a change agent, was working for the ‘Governance of Social Care Centers in Post-Tsunami Sri Lanka Project’ funded by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and implemented by Queen’s University of Canada in close collaboration with the Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare (MSSSW). The project goal is to contribute to community reconstruction in post-Tsunami Sri Lanka and improve the quality of life at a community level through capacity building which is being achieved by the establishment of good governance strategies in a network of Social Care Centers (SCC) in order to promote coordinated social development and services in a manner that affirms transparency, accessibility and community ownership. His project contract expired on the 31 March 2009.
Nooranie was previously attached to the Sarvodaya Shramadhana Sangamaya Inc. a non-profit charity organization (the biggest grass root organization in Sri Lanka) in a project called the Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC) at a capacity of Secretariat Coordinator in the GNRC South Asia Secretariat based in Sri Lanka. (Please refer http://www.southasia.gnrc.net/ for more information on GNRC) and before that to the 8th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) Coordinating Secretariat as the Coordinator for the Youth Programme Committee. Nooranie is an Apprentice at Sage Training (Pvt) Ltd, practicing Training and Development under Mr. Robert Vander Wall and Mr. Lalith Gunaratne since June 2007 and assist the training team at Sage., doing training programmes on leadership development, teambuilding, conflict resolution, presentation skills, etc. its main goal is to provide consulting and training products and services, which enhance the business success their clients, through focused development of their people and systems (Please visit http://www.sagetraining.org/ for more information)
Nooranie is also attached to the Global Youth Coalition on AIDS (GYCA). GYCA is a youth-led, UNAIDS and UNFPA supported alliance of over 2,700 young leaders and adult allies working in over 107 countries worldwide. More than half of the 5 million new HIV infections each year occur among young people under 25 years old, with 6,000 new infections each day. GYCA empowers young leaders with the skills, knowledge, resources and opportunities they need to scale up HIV/ AIDS interventions amongst their peers.
He served as the GYCA National Focal Point for Sri Lanka. As a relatively decentralized network, GYCA relies upon the enthusiasm and commitment of its members to steer and develop the Coalition. The principle function of the NFPs is to be pro-active in mapping and networking processes in GYCA - South Asia and effectively engaging all GYCA - South Asia members within their country. The NFP should believe in GYCA’s overall goals, operate from a framework of human rights, work in an HIV/ AIDS related field and be willing to facilitate GYCA’s growth and sustainability.
Nooranie is also the Secretary for the Rotaract Club of Colombo (RCC) (Please visit http://www.rotaractclubofcolombo.com/ for more information). RCC was charted in September 1969 and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo, is one of the pioneer Rotaract Clubs in Sri Lanka. This year he was Elected as the 40th President and will assume duties on the 1 July 2009.
Nooranie is also the General Secretary & the Chairman of Beyond Borders, a voluntary, youth-led, youth-run initiative, which was initially supported by the British Council office in Colombo. Its working themes are Identity, Diversity and Active Global Citizenship and ‘Beyond Borders’ core groups in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka undertake initiatives that provide a space for young people to actively express themselves on a range of issues. During his period at High School he was involved in most of the Societies and has worked in youth activities.
Training and development of peers and other individuals, managing people (Human Resource Management), public speaking, excellent administrative and secretarial skills, knowledge on information communication technology (both IT & ICT), creative writing are some of Nooranie’s soft skills and strengths/ capabilities. He is also an effective leader and a good team player.
His Vision in life is: “To contribute towards the greater collision of making positive change in the World”
and his Objectives are:
1. To be a part in different kinds of activities & various types of Development Processes
2. Build up efficient & effective networks all over the Country, Region & the rest of the World with different Persons
3. Be a highly qualified Human Resource Management Professional
4. Build up & be a part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy & Strategy, effective & measurable, in order to eradicate the social stigma on National & International Conflicts & Issues
5. Work with Youth Groups in order to transform the message of Positive Change
6. Educate & Utilize peer groups to start working on transforming positive change among their networks
