I want to thank everyone in advance for visiting my fundraising page and for any donations and support given! I am 22 years old. I am a graduate from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario where I studied Geography with a concentration in Urban and Human Geography. Throughout University, I was President of "Right to Play Carleton," a student-run organization that raised money and awareness for the international organization "Right to Play." I represented "Right to Play" at a variety of NGO Fairs where I met people who were involved with Youth Challenge International. Since then, I have wanted to travel overseas with the organization! In July 2009, I will be embarking on a six-week journey to Tanzania with Youth Challenge International! I will be living with a host family in a local community and will be focusing my efforts in: - Mobilizing youth through skills development and employability training - HIV/AIDS awareness - Gender equality training - Enabling local youth to take on leadership roles - Teaching sustainable practice The experience I will attain through my time with the YCI program will only benefit me with my future plans of working within the public relations side of non-government organizations. I am excited and grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to how this experience will open up my heart and my mind. Hilary |
