About Me |
Hien graduated from College of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, specializing in English. While studying, she volunteered on some research projects of the Vietnam Institute of gender and Family Studies focusing on women and children. The greatest benefit was the opportunity to go inside people’s thought. For the first time, she found social development to be a hot and open issue in Vietnam.
After graduating, she decided to further go with community issues by joining the Center for Research of Gender-Law & Community Development (GLACODE). During her time as a Project Assistant at GLACODE, she took part in several projects, including Gender Equity, Reproductive Health care and Handicraft training for ethnic minority groups. Currently she is working for Netherlands Leprosy Relief (NLR) in Vietnam as a project cum office assistant. NLR helps solving such issues of people affected with leprosy as orthopedic operations, tools assisting in daily life and work, and incomes-raising issues. They are also assisting Lilian Funds voluntarily in supporting poor children with disability.
In addition, Hien has been working as a volunteer since March, 2006 for Save Children Now - an online network of people working to help needy children around the world, in a role of Asia Co-Director. SCN is a bridge connecting volunteer people having passions for helping children worldwide with local organizations/associations, which they can provide their direct support.
She also gets involved in PYNet. There she acts as a Deputy Coordinator who is responsible of (1) designing and consulting for projects; (2) searching and building PR with external sources; (3) doing fund-raising activities, and (4)managing fund sources and other project activities; and an Accountant of the network. Network of Promoting Youth Action for Community Development – PYNet is founded by ones which have experiences in social and volunteer work. Our main goal is to create a volunteer network where young people can contribute their efforts and love in order to make a better world.)
From May to December 2007, Hien worked as the Vietnam National Focal Point at the Global Coalition for HIV/AIDS.
