 About Me |
My name is Lansana Hassan Sowa,I was born in Bo in the South of Sierra Leone.I attended The Prince Of Wales School Freetown.I am currently a 3rd year civil engineering student at the Milton Margai college of education and technology.I am an energetic youth activist working as the Public Relations Oficer for the Young Leaders Of Sierra Leone.Ever since, I was in secondary school I have always worked as a vibrant and energetic youth on issues that involve bringing change to my community and my society as a whole. I have worked closely with numerous Non Governmental Organisations and youth groups in Sierra Leone for the past 5 years. To state few, in 1999-2001, I worked as a volunteer with the independent youth forum. The forum was responsible for controlling and disbursement of funds for small grants for small projects to youth groups.
In theforum I was representing my community an there were 80 representatives. I was selected by my community to represent them at the forum due to my relentless involvement in youth activism. During my term in the forum, I won 3 projects. I won a HIV/AIDS sensitization, water well and a tree planting project respectively. At the end of my term at the forum, I volunteered with the Save the Children of Sierra Leone fund, which was a local Non Governmental Organisation.
I worked in the HIV/AIDS sensitization department. I was in charge of coordinating schools sensitization programmes and I worked with 20 schools in Freetown. I worked there for a period of 2 years. While there, I was sent as a representative to national HIV/AIDS task force which was responsible for organizing the national HIV/AIDS sensitization campaign in 2002.
I was a member of committee for the organizing and launching of the Global Youth Service Day, Youth Employment Summit, World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Sierra Leone chapter in 2002 respectively. I participated in so many other youth related activities representing my community and the organisations that I was volunteering for. I am still working towards achieving my vision as I currently work with the Young Leaders Sierra Leone a leading volunteering youth group in Sierra Leone and I also volunteers for the Campaign for Good Governance, Sierra Leone.
Inmy community I am still playing an active role by mobilizing youths to make roads, cleaning drainages etc.
organisation.Previously i have worked various youth groups as a volunteer.I started working as a volunteer since i was in secondary school.I love readind,listening to music and sometimes playing soccer.
