My name is Kristian Green, I have grown up and currently reside in Newfoundland, Canada. 2008 has been a great year for me and hopefully 2009 will be the same. During the past year I graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Biochemistry Honours degree. During the summer I took the time to travel with 4 other MUN students to Zanzibar, Tanzania with YCI. While there we were responsible for planning and coordinating various workshops for Zanzibarian youth NGO programs mostly relating to Health and Nutrition. We facilitated various workshops related to nutrition and water safety, HIV/AIDS information and prevention, positively living with HIV/AIDS, Gender equality issues, Prevention of Mother to child transmission of HIV, among others. It was an extremely rewarding experience getting to see how enthusiastic the youth were about learning about such issues and how willing they were to go and teach about these issues to their peers. I am currently a MUN Faculty of Medicine Graduate student doing research on the genetics of obesity in the Newfoundland population. So far our lab has found 45 potential candidate vulnerability genes relating to a predisposition towards obesity. As exciting as that sounds, it really isn't so much since I'm actually writing this bio right now instead of doing the work that I should be doing! In addition to school I like to party with friends on the weekends, go to the gym whenever possible, watch movies, read, and play sports like baseball, tennis, golf (I s'pose that doesn't count as a sport), and Ultimate (sickk ol' sport). My work experience has been limited to mostly early childhood education in the summers of my high school years and a few random research jobs throughout my undergraduate career. As for volunteering, I am a member of St. John Ambulance, I tutored an elementary student from Southern Zambia in English reading, I am involved with MUN Engineers without Borders helping out wherever possible, and am a member with MUN Health, Outreach and Promotion, and Education (MUNHOPE), a group that focuses on health promotion both locally and globally. Otherwise, that's all I got for now. Seeing as how my profile has been view 444 times I figured it was about time to tell you about myself. So there ya go! Baadaye!
