About Me |
My name is Gloria. I am a Youth facilitator with Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) Calabar Centre. I am also a graduate of Business Management in the University of Calabar and a trained Peer Health Educator. As a Youth Facilitator, I have been actively involved in the process of building the capacity of adolescent girls aged 10-18 years in GPI for the past four (4) years, taking them through courses on Personal Empowerment, Leadership, Life Management skills, Sexual/Reproductive Health and Rights, Violence against girls and women, and Human Rights.
I work in three departments in the organization namely – Youth Development, Knowledge Management and Public Education, and Administration. I am currently the deputy Head of Administration, and I play different leadership roles while planning for and executing projects in the organization. I am also the Secretary of Project Execution Team (PET). The team is responsible for planning all activities in the organization. I am a member of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and the Learning about Living (LaL) Project. I recently participated in the development of the Electronic version of the Family Life and HIV/AIDS Education (EFLHE) Curriculum for Young People in Nigeria. I contributed in the publishing of “Sexuality Education Series for Young Persons No. 5 on Questions Adolescents Ask” by Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI). I have been an active member of GPI Alumnae Association (GAA) for the past nine (9) years, where I have participated in the implementation of youth-focused development projects both in urban and rural areas.
I am a young woman who believes in putting my best in all that I do. I am proactive and believe in excellence. I aspire to be a phenomenal leader, a role model that other young people can look up to. I am brilliant, innovative and passionate in working with young people. I am a youth activist and enjoy motivating people for success. I believe that transformative leadership is what our Country needs to move forward and this is what we need as young people to become exceptional women and men. I am confident that the forum will give us the opportunity to gain insights on how to participate in nation building.
