Over Mij

I'm young, passionate, I love to challenge the system and I'm hopeful, and probably a bit naive, but I'm really interested in the field of international development and hope to pursue it in university. It's such a passion of mine to help end extreme poverty by extention of sustainable development. I first heard that it was even possible when I was in grade 11, by accident really, I was on a half day of school so in the afternoon I went with my friend to his college, and it was a general education course and they were discussing the article "Can Extreme Poverty Be Elminiated?" by Jeffrey D. Sachs (from Scientific American if you're interested), who is the leading director of the United Nations Development Programme (www.undp.org). It just blew my mind away. Extreme poverty just seemed like one of those insurmountable goals we couldn't ever really get rid of, and then to find out WE have power, OUR generations could end this right now in our lifetimes. I really think it's a worth while cause and I'm currently doing an ISU on it for school and looking into volunteer work or part-time employment in the field.
