Isikwenu Oghenefego born to the family of Dr. & Mrs. Isikwenu, is the first Child of four children and from Irri in Isoko-South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria; she had all her education up to Bachelor’s degree level in Delta State. She is a graduate of Delta State University from the Department of Biochemistry and is currently on a Master degree programme in Human Nutrition at the University of Ibadan. Oghenefego has been involved in initiating discussion forums from childhood; from children’s club in her home after her secondary schooling to counseling at youth camps as an undergraduate in the university, founding a youth NGO (Inspiro Communications and Media with headquarters in Asaba, Delta State) on campus that works using the print and electronic media including the internet and initiator of Igbor youth forum in a village. She is the past National Focal Point (2008) Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria during which she carried out a national project in 12states of the federation- Close the Gap Nigeria; and currently serves as the Secretary of NYNETHA Delta Chapter. Oghenefego has being actively involved in Reproductive Health issues, HIV/AIDS, gender, good governance and a whole range of issues that affect young people from her days in the secondary school. She also participated at ICASA 2008 where young people advocated for participation in decision-making and access to treatment. Her recent contract as an Action Partner in the OIYP programme an initiative of Oxfam Australia has broadened her explore and availed Oghenefego the opportunity to work for a better world on the international scene.
Oghenefego has participated actively in various national and international conferences some of which are the OIYP Kaleidoscope, Sydney 2007, Nigeria HIV/AIDS Summit, Abuja 2007, Int’l Youth Deliver Conference, Abuja 2008, ICASA, Dakar 2008, and Int’l Conference on Family Planning: Research and Best Practices, Kampala 2009 amongst other workshops and high leveled meetings. As a participant of the Top 12 project, she designed a project to empower young girls with leadership and vocational skills. She is also the brain behind the Women Leadership & Economic Empowerment Project- (Women-LEEP) with support from Oxfam Australia; a scale up of the Top 12 project. This project received the Best Gender Development Project during the Top12 Award organized by Youngstars Foundation and other partners. Isikwenu Oghenefego is a recipient of the 6th Annual Youth Leadership Award by LEAP Africa, International Youth Foundation and Nokia.
She is currently a Consultant Master trainer in the NYSC Reproductive Health and HIV & AIDS Prevention Project, a national project funded by UNICEF and other partners.
