Esther Agbarakwe is young climate change expert and trainer with extensive experience in creating, facilitating and managing youth led projects. she also has experience system's development and strengthening. Esther has been privileged to represent Nigeria and Africa at over 10 global governance meetings on sustainable development as well as previous role as African coordinator of UN Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) Youth and Children Major Group. Esther represented African youths at United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP 15) in December 2009 in Copenhagen, 2011 (COP17)in Durban, South Africa where she delivered the Youth Openining statement

She holds a B.Sc in Education Chemistry from the University of Calabar,Nigeria and besides her specialization in Teaching,counseling and coaching she has studied various subjects in humanities, health ,environment and sustainable development, business and management

In 2010 Esther Agbarakwe was invited by His Highess, Sheika Mozah and Qatar foundation to represent student world wide at the World Innovation summit on Education in Doha, Qatar 2010

She has been a very passionate youth advocate for sustainable development for more than 6 years. Esther also Coordinate the Nigerian Youth Climate Coalition (NYCC) which she co-founded (www.nigerianyouthclimatecoalition.ning.com)

Esther has been highly active in The Earth Charter Initiative’s youth network. She is the founder of Earth Charter Youth Group Calabar and had Managed the Earth Charter Youth Special Project-Nigeria (2009) that focused on Peace development in the Niger Delta. She was invited to Speak at the 10 years Anniversary of the Earth Charter (EC+10) in the Peace Palace at The Hague, Netherlands with the Dutch Queen in attendance. The Earth Charter takes a special interest in promoting youth activism in sustainable development.

She is a Group member of the “First Steps Campaign” a youth group that was birthed during the 2008 Civicus Youth Assembly in Scotland which aims ti inspire actions and she happens to be one of the committee members. Esther was actively involved as the African representative at the International Organizing committee of the 5th World Water Youth Forum in Istanbul in March 2009.

In May 2009, She was supported by the German Government for Participation at the UN Commission on Sustainable Development 17th session held at the UN headquarters in New York for her work on Youth in Sustainability in Nigeria where she delivered the Youth Opening Statement for the Youth and Children Major Group. In response to her youth work in the Niger Delta, She was awarded the Prestigious 2009 Dekeyser&Friends Foundation full Fellowship in Germany.




Esther has also volunteered, consulted for Actionaid International Nigeria, and currently sit in it's General Assembly as the only Youth Representative

An Atlas Corps fellow, Commonwelath Youth Climate fellow and Dekeyser and Friends Foundation fellow, Esther strongly believes in Inter-generational equity and partnership for sustainability.

She is a young leader in Nigeria and has already achieved a great deal.
