1. Introduction
Alliance for Youth Development (AYD) is a Youth-led Organisation and has been in existence since the year 2000 but was formally registered as Non-Governmental organization (NGO) in 2003.
2. Vision
This Organization was created out of the vision to help underprivileged to bridge the Developmental gap that exist between the more endowed communities to the less ones to meet the ever-growing challenges of this world. The organisation is envisioned to promote the general welfare of youth/children while ensuring their full utilization in the development of human resources as full participants in all facets of national development working towards total elimination of all social and cultural practices tending to discriminate against and dehumanize the youth/children in Ghana.
3. General Objectives
To help underprivileged to bridge the Developmental gap that exists between the more endowed communities to the less ones and to promote the general welfare of youth/children to meet the ever-growing changes of the world.
4. Specific Objectives
1. To foster collaboration among persons and with institutions engaged in Advocating in Child/Youth Rights, Child Survival, Youth Reproductive Health and Girl Child Education.
2. To improve and extend youth services and work to enhance and demonstrate youth participation in the society.
3. To protect, promote and preserve the sexual and reproductive health of young people by educating them in matters relating to sexual behaviour, contraception, sexual transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies.
4. To assist rural communities in development of matters relating to their health, sustainable environment and water and sanitation.
5. HIV/AIDS prevention and Care & Support for People Infected and Affected by HIV/AIDS.
4. Projects under Implementation
- Library Project at Moree
- The Grassroots Economic Literacy and Advocacy Programme (GELAP) (Abura Asebu Kwamankese District) – Funded by SEND Foundation of West Africa.
- The passion for Life Project Phase II in Cape Coast and Abura Asebu Kwamankese Districts financed by Staying Alive Foundation USA, Ghana AIDS Commission and Friends of AYD
- Adopt a Child Programme
- Sport for Youth Development Programme
5. Planned Projects
- Building an orphanage at Abura Asebu Kwamankese District of the Central Region
- Using Advocacy, Negotiation and Networking for Organizational Efficiency for Youth Organisations in Ghana
- A Sustainable Approach to Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Human Development: Non-timber Forest Resources Farming (NTFRF)
- Workshop on Community Empowerment, the Role of Youth and Youth Organization
- Workshop on the Role of Youth in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) in Ghana
- Research on Integrating the Youth in Environmental and Developmental issues
6. Past Activities
- Passion for Life Phase I in Cape Coast Municipality, Abura Asebu Kwamankese and Asuogyaman Districts, financed by a Friends of AYD – 2003 – 2005
- Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) at Akwamufie, Agyena, Anum and Frankadua in the Asuogyaman District, 2005
- Co-founder, Association of People Living With HIV/AIDS, Asuogyaman District – 2005
- Leadership Training Workshop – Akosombo, financed by Friends of AYD, USA, 2003
