My name is Eleanor Munro, I live in Bristol, England, and I am passionate about children's rights.
In my short career I have volunteered and worked for UNICEF, delivering peer-education around HIV and children's rights to other young people from the UK and across the world, both in my local community and at global gatherings such as the World Scout Jamboree 2007. I also helped to run a Children's Preparatory Forum for the United Nations Special Session commemorating 5 years since the original World Fit For Children meeting.
I work for an organisation called the National Youth Agency. We help organisations to involve young people meaningfully in decision-making and the way that organisation is run. We believe that children have the right to say what they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinions taken into account (article 12, UNCRC). We also believe that young people's participation should lead to change - in an organisation, in a community and in the lives of the young people involved.
I volunteer for Terrence Higgins Trust on the Young Leaders South West board, and am a National Board Member. We want to help improve sex and relationships education for young people in my country, by giving young people the opportunity to lead their own projects.
I am a trustee of the Children's Rights Alliance for England. We campaign on a range of children's rights issues, such as banning smacking of children, improving the youth justice system and getting the government to fully comply to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
I work freelance for other rights-based organisations.
I am a fan of Sheffield United Football Club.
My ambition is to get a degree, go to South America, record some of the best participation practice in the world, and take over UNICEF. Not too much then...
