About me
I attended Atlantic College, which is part of a network of 10 international boarding schools located worldwide called the United World Colleges. They are dedicated to the ideals of international understanding through education and community service. After my experience there, i returened to the United States to study Neuroscience at Tulane University in New Orleans.
During my studies, I solidified my interest in International Development - especially as related to women, children, and HIV/AIDS. I lived and worked in South Africa for approximately 2 years (doing consulting work) and spent some time working with TakingITGlobal as the HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator. Recently I have decided to focus all of my efforts on the growth and success of the African Regional Youth Initiative (ARYI) in partnership with Neema Mgana.
ARYI is a long-standing, and reputable network of hundreds of community-based and youth-focused organizations acrros the African continent. We have several program areas including the following:
(1) Women and Development (under which we run a trafficking/HIV/AIDS awareness progrm and a media program entitled "Women and the Politic of Place: Power, Culture, and Identity")
(2) Orphaned and Vulnerable Children
(under which we have several programs that benefit chlidren who have been made vulnerable due to HIV/AIDS and other economic and social factors) This program is run in full partnership with FXB.)
(3) Community Development
(Under which we run various community forums and consultations, trainings, youth empowerment/enggement programs, and recently have added to this list our Sports for Development program being piloted in Uganda and our Poverty Reduction (PRSP) program which is to be implemented in 21 countries across Africa)
This work is many years in the making and I look forward to its continued growth. We are a group of action - not talk. We understand the problems and develop creative and effective program models in order to address specific issues and population groups.
