He is the Founder/President of the popular Environment & Conservation Club of the University of Port Harcourt (Eco Club of University of Port Harcourt). He has vast experiences both professionally and practically in the fields of Climate Change (Climatology), Environmental Sciences/Conservation, Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Law, Hydrobiology, Waste management, Biodiversity, Community service development, Leadership/Personal development, and Sustainable Development expertise. Efik mobilized some Nigerian student-based organizations, clubs and societies, and together established a coalition known as the Nigerian Students’ Climate Coalition & Sustainable Development (NSCC-SD) for young people particularly students to be actively involved and acquainted with climate change and its effects, challenges, mitigation, adaptation and vulnerabilities in the Nigerian environment including sustainable development. Efik’s personal objective in life is to make impact in every facet of life, contributing to societal and human development through innovative enhancement that can bring about positive change in all endeavours; while his professional objective is to be part of the global solution to the environmental challenges ensuring that sustainable development is achieved. He initiated • The ‘Climate Pledge’ also known as the 4-Way Test on Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability – (1) Take action, be a Volunteer. (2) Plant Trees, if you fell a Tree, plant 5. (3) Seal the Deal, support your Leaders. (4) Remember the 3 ‘R’s Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. • The First National Climate Lecture in Nigeria with the topic ‘The Tree Age’ and he’s also the first student to give a formal lecture presentation on climate change and sustainable development. • Rivgreen Club of the University of Port Harcourt. • Niger Delta Students’ Environmental Forum (NDSEF); Niger Delta is a region that contributes about 40% of all gases flared in Africa and 80% of Nigeria’s wealth. His main area of interest is Volunteering, Researching, and Community/Humanitarian service. Efik participated as an outstanding Nigerian Youth Party Delegate/Focal Person for Students at the 15th edition of the Conference of Parties (COP15) of the UN Climate Change Conference, Copenhagen, Denmark. From 7th – 18th December 2009. He is a member, • Commonwealth Youth Climate Initiative, UK. • World Student Community on Sustainable Development (WSCSD), • Global Humanitarian Forum (GHF), Switzerland. He is an executive member of Nigerian Youth Climate Coalition (NYCC), Climate Change Network, Nigeria (CCN - Nigeria), also an Active Member/student-partner of International Climate Champions (ICC) of British Council, Port Harcourt regional office, Nigeria. |
