About Me   About Me
Imene, 22 years old, a medical student in my 4th year of studies in school of Medecine in Tunis where i currently live.
My passion for associative work begun 4 years ago when i joined my Faculty. There i discovered that we are lucky (as medical students) to have our own association, member of a huge international network :IFMSA or International Federation of Medical Students Associations.
This great opportunity allowed me to join the associative work and to be an active member in several committees and especially SCORA (Standing Committee On Reproductive Health Including AIDS).
This was 3 years ago when my involvment and commitment to the fight against AIDS could be possible through my work with my NGO.
I started realizing then how important youth involvment is in the fight against STI/AIDS and approaching sensitive issues like SRH with young people.

I was part of several activities including seminars, raising awarness campaigns, producing brochures and posters, street actions, peer education sessions,etc..

Last year i was elected to be the National Officer on Reproductive Health Including AIDS and this allowed me to extend my plans and projects not only to a local level but also to a regional and international one !

During August 2006, i had the opportunity to attend the IFMSA international meeting which ws a great oppurtinuty for me to discover what is going on in other parts of the world regarding young people activities in the fight against AIDS.
This allowed me also to participate in several workshops and trainings including " leadership" and "teambuilding" .

As part of my involvment and as a way to advocate for young people's needs in SRH, i was selected to be one of the first members of the newest panel attached to UNFPA :Youth Advisory Panel, which is a proof on how Adult-Youth partnership can be a reality in our region.

Being part of this panel and UNFPA in general helped me to be closer to stakeholders and to advocate for youth not only in my country but young people in our region in general.
I participated in the UNFPA meeting in San'aa -Yemen about " Adapting Standards of Peer Education To the arab states context" and i had the opportunity to present our experience in Tunsia in the field of Peer Education.

By the end of December 2006, I was part of the organizing committee of the second EMR (Eastern Mediterranean Region) meeting of the IFMSA and i coordinated the sessions dealing with RH and HIV/AIDS with the participation of other young commited people from the region and especially : Lebanon, Algeria,Jordan.
We had trainings, workshops and SWG with the participation of guest speakers and trainers from WHO, IFMSA and UNAIDS.
I also assisted to the workshop intitled " Reproductive health and cultural barriers" which was an oppurtunity to speak about how can we, as young people, make a difference in our region dealing with sensitive issues like SRH and how to avoid cultural and religious conflicts.

Being a national officer, i had the opportunity to represent my NGO in many occasionns including the CCM (Country Coordinating Mechanism) in elaborating the national request to the global fund against AIDS, malaria and Tuberculosis.
we are also represented in the National network of associations against AIDS (RANCS) which allows us to work together with other NGOs having the same mission.
Lately, I joined the Y-peer network in a national level and projecting to attend the first national training of trainers so i could extend my experience and skills in the PE field.
