Dennis Gbambor James was born in Bumpe, Bo District, Sierra Leone and married to Jenneh Ann-Marie James with two children - Geindalo and Wotay James. He has an MA in Development Studies from University of Leeds, United Kingdom (2005), Bachelor of Social Sciences (Sociology – major) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone (1999); his secondary education at Bo Government Secondary School and St. Andrews Secondary School in Bo and primary school education at Bo District Council School Bumpe. Upon graduation in 1999, he served as Field Supervisor for Brethren Relief and Development Agency (BREDA) a Development Department of Church of United Brethren in Christ Sierra Leone Conference (UBCSL). Responsible for the implementation and supervision of Integrated Rural Development Projects (IRDP) in conflict operational areas of the Church, Dennis was trained in disaster management and preparedness by Church World Service (CWS) at Presbyterian Women’s Centre Abokobi, Ghana (2001). Having served the Church for three years, he was appointed as Project Coordinator in 2003 and later trained by Action by Churches Together (ACT) as a trainer in disaster management, preparedness and mitigation at Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe (2003). As community animator, he has trained and facilitated peace-building workshops through folk media both nationally and internationally and in 2004, he benefited from the Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience (STAR) programme conducted for the Mano River Union religious workers. Dennis Served the GoBifo project as a Consultant Trainer in Community Development for three months (Feb - May o6) before Coordinating an Emergency Response and Disaster Mitigation project for World Vision International Sierra Leone Programme (Mya06-May07). His international career started as Emergency Prepareness Project Coordinator and Training Expert for UNDP Afghanistan. Thereafter, he served as Disaster Management Advisor and Area Coordinator for Tearfund UK Afghanistan Programme, Area Rehabilitation Programme Coordinator for World Vision in South Sudan and currently as a Site Manager of South Sudan DDR Progamme for Central Equitorial. Based on his experience with rural communities either affected by man-made or natural disasters, he has keen interest to research into effect of disasters on rural livelihoods.
