Durgapur Sub-Divisional Voluntary Blood Donors’ Forum is a collaborative effort of those who are not only willing to give their blood but also their sweat for the cause. Established in 2001 by 89 dedicated donors, the Association today has expanded to a fraternity of over 3000 blood donors, organisers, motivators, associates, and 300 members from all walks of life. Their shared mission: to bridge the woeful gap between the supply and demand of the life saving fluid in Durgapur Sub-Division. The well-to-do citizens like Doctors, Professors, Teachers, Executives of Govt. & corporate. offices, Advocates, Charttered personnel’s, Social workers are our members. Every body, out of his personal works, joins with the day-to-day works of the association. In fact, our association having a well-equipped team of competent, dedicated and experienced Honorary social workers. We are actively associated with various works undertaken by Durgapur Municipal Corporation, Department of Health-Govt of West Bengal and District Administration. Throughout the year other than the Blood Donation Camps we join and organize various programmes in collaboration with many voluntary organization’s & NGO’s, such as pulse polio camps, Immunization camps, Thalassaemia carrier detection camps, various health care camps, and many other Awareness Generation Camps. Presently we have taken the initiative to hold a massive campaign and conducting awareness generation camps regarding two important issues …. 1)NOT THE HOROSCOPE - TEST THE BLOOD BEFORE MARRIAGE --- to save the community from the dreadful disease like Thalassaemia, Aids, Leukemia etc. 2)SAY NO TO DRUG - to develop consciousness among youth against drug abuses etc.. Our Activities – At a Glance 1. General Organising blood donation camps throughout the Durgapur Subdivision Arranging mobile collection teams from Durgapur Sub – Divisional Hospital blood bank. Organising the blood group detection camps. Delivering credit cards to donors. Organising School education programmes for donors of tomorrow Identifying and popularising significant days of blood donation for different groups to spread out blood donation drives throughout the year. 2. Motivation : •Seminars, Talks and Discussions •Exhibitions and Competitions •Distribution of Literature •Display of Posters and Hoardings •Campaigns through Mass Media 3. Organising Awareness Generation campaigns and Programmes 4. Recognition : •Honoring the donors and donor organisers by awarding certificates. •Maintaining a honoured list of donors and panel donors. 5. Database of Blood Donors and Blood Donor Organisations : By courtesy of some leading computer centres of the city, the Forum maintains a comprehensive database of voluntary blood donation and donor base in Durgapur Subdivision in order to extend donor services and to undertake research. 6. Sharing of Experience : Through consultation, workshops, seminars, conferences, colloquia, and meetings the expertise acquired is shared with other organisations of our State. 7.Improvement of Blood Banking Service: Regular meetings, representations, and correspondence with appropriate authorities for improvement of blood banking services. While we organise a variety of programme each year, some of our most enduring and successful programme have been linked to : National Youth Day on January 12 – It is the birth day of Swami Vivekananda. Frank Worrell Day to honour his contribution in saving the life of Nari Contractor, India's cricket captain, in 1962. It is held on February 3 every year. World Blood Donors’Day on June 14 : It is the birth day of discoverer of blood groups Noble Laureate Dr. Karl Landsteiner. Football Lovers Day on August 16 : This is dedicated to the memory of those who died in a stampede at Eden Gardens in 1980. Raksha Bandhan Day : in August is a unique occasion in which the traditional rakhi and a gift of blood creates 'blood brothers and sisters' in numerous towns of West Bengal. National Intregration Day on October 2 : It is the birth day of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. World Aids Day on December 1 : To develop awareness against the dreadfull disease. Office : The DSVBDF operates a small evening office at RD/1 ARMSTRONG AVENUE,Bidhannagar,Durgpur-713212 that is open on all days except Sundays. It coordinates all activities and monitors on going projects.
