While as a law student I have done voluntary work with Human Rights Law Network, New Delhi, HAQ: Centre for Child Right, New Delhi, ActionAid India, Kolkata and Majlis Legal Resource Centre, Mumbai. My work has ranged from writing reports, developing campaign and advocacy material, conducting workshops and assisting in domestic violence litigation. I was active with Right Now (RN), a law students' group in Pune working on issues of children, youth and environment. I was part of the RN delegation that participated at the Intercontinental Youth Camp at the 2004 World Social Forum in Mumbai. During my final year at law school I worked as a Research Associate with the Human Rights Education Initiative at the Centre for Communication and Development Studies (CCDS), Pune where I coordinated the Young Human Rights Defenders Programme and co-authored the Young Human Rights Defenders Training Manual. In 2006, I was selected to participate in UNICEF India’s ‘Knowledge Community on Children in India’ programme where I researched on a project titled ‘Impact of Microplanning on Women’s Empowerment’. I have conducted human rights law training/ capacity building workshops with young people, sex workers and their children. My present work specifically looks at the processes of mobilization through which sex workers in India, especially those with the Durbar Mahila Samanyaya Committee (DMSC) in Kolkata - Asia's largest sex workers' organisation - negotiate their demands for workers' rights, and fight against HIV/ AIDS and trafficking through the establishment of Self Regulatory Boards (SRB). I have written on sex work and sexuality for The Times of India, and InfoChange India, and am the co-editor of the special issue on 'Child Rights in India' for the journal InfoChange Agenda.
