Edgar has received numerous trainings in Peer Counseling, Peer Education, Project Management, Political Advocacy, BCC and HIV and AIDS and currently working full time with Baptist AIDS Response Agency in Africa (BARA-A) as a Data Analyst and Part time Youth Worker. BARA-A is a US – funded NGO through the NPI Initiative, working in partnerships with CDC, CHF International among other NGOs to provide CT services and to promote Behavior Change Programs among Youths, Young Adults and Adults striving for a HIV free generation and improved quality of life for those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. BARA-A is currently implementing a Gender Based Program as well. Since 2002, Edgar has exclusively worked with youths and youth groups in the HIV/AIDS Sector, As a Youth Worker; He has been involved in different HIV and AIDS activities across the country and abroad. His diverse experiences include; Establishment of BCC programs in Youth Institutions including a number of Kenyan Universities, and other Learning Institutions. While serving as GYCA’s National Focal Point for Kenya, Edgar led a team of young people in drafting the 2008 UNGASS Kenya Youth Shadow Report, a move that enabled him draw good ties with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MOYAS) as well as other Civil Organizations dealing with Youths. He maintained a good relationship with the youths throughout his term through GYCA’s Local gatherings, GYCA events and expeditions, and participated in several national and international conferences and events including the 2008 UNICEF-led South and Eastern Regional Consultation held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Youth and Male Circumcision. Edgar is in the forefront in the Male Circumcision Advocacy and runs a Project on the same. Edgar has also worked in Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Cameroon, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo where he has been credited in establishing BCC Models and Support groups and in promoting Behavior Change among the youths. He has worked with Higher Institutions of learning as well as with communities including the Pygmy Communities in the dense Congo Forest. He also modeled the successful True Love Waits Movement in East Africa Region; a movement credited to have slashed the HIV Prevalence from 15 % to 5% in Uganda, the model was remodeled among the youths in the South African countries including Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Given his dynamic qualities and networking skills, Edgar pictures a strong GYCA and believes that, if empowered, Youths can turn around the world to a sweet haven free from HIV and AIDS.
