My name is Daniel Reeders, and I work in HIV prevention and positive health promotion in Melbourne, Australia. I'm a consultant providing services in design and social marketing to Victoria's leading HIV/AIDS agencies, though I work in other modes as well, including peer education, campaign strategic and policy analysis. In all my work I pursue a couple of objectives: Drawing decision-makers' attention to the generational dimensions of health-protective attitudes and behaviour. For example, the mean age for seroconversions among gay men in Australia is around 35yo. These are guys who came out when AIDS deaths were at their peak (1993) in Australia. What happens when guys who came out after the highly-active treatments revolution (1996) hit their thirties? Raising awareness of the different media consumption habits and communication skills of what I call the V Generation, where V stands for Virtual -- it's less hard and fast than a birthdate-based generation like X or Y, since it includes older men and women who've worked out the social networking potential of the Internet. I have combined qualifications in Arts (cultural studies) and Law (with a particular focus on legal barriers to access to essential medicines). One day I plan to pursue postgraduate education, but for the moment I'm involved in an action research project concerned with health impacts of crystal meth upon regular users. I'd love to hear from anyone working in this area in Australia or worldwide. If you can dream it, you can do it! Leave a message!
