About Me |
Nowadays, one big issue that the Y generation as to deal with is every problems related to alcohol. I feel like we have some kind of a generealized drinking issue. Most of people go out in bars and nightclubs on thursday, friday or saturday night. But some of us drink a lot more, like almost everyday, and at that point drinking becomes a real problem, if not an addiction.
In some reality shows that we, young adults, watch a lot, like Jersey Shore for exemple, we see plenty of drunk people having fun and I think it can give people a really wrong idea of what alcohol is all about. It can be excessively addictive and make you sick ; and I'm not only talking about vomiting, which is not really fun neither, I'm talking about overdoses and diseases like liver cirrhosis or brain damages. We tend to think that if we want to have fun, we have to drink. It's becoming an obligation : if you go out in a nightclub or something, you have to get wasted or you won't have fun. Well, this is what most of people think but it's so not true. Sometimes, shy people drink to loosen up a little or others because they want to forget their problems, but we have to understand that alcohol is not a solution at all. I agree that it can be really fun sometimes to drink with your friends, but not three times a week.
And with drinking comes other problems like drunk driving which is getting a really important issue in America. We often hear about young people who kill themselves in car accidents and I think those things shouldn't happen. Some people get out of control when they drink and they do silly and reckless things. But what is even worst is that when they drink and drive, they endanger everyone else on the roads. There are some organisations like MADD (mothers against drunk driving) that fight to avoid drunk driving and for me, this is a really noble cause.
Another concerning problem is about drugs in clubs and bars. Everyone knows a girl who got drugged because some unknown people put GHB in her drink. Well, I say girls because it happens more often but sometimes boys can get drugged too. Recently, it happened to one of my closest friends and it made me realise a lot of things. A random guy put a couple of pills in her drink and she got sick the whole night. She doesn't remember anything but she is really lucky to have good friends who took care of her because she could have been raped or kidnapped. This is getting a really important issue and people who go out in clubs have to be aware of this. Always watch your drink, guys.
