Over Mij

My names are Okonkwo Chijioke Obinna.I hail from Anambra State Nigeria and was born on 18th February 1984.Due to the drive to serve humanity,I was the Co-ordinator "Youth Drug Free Movement" geared towards sensitising young people on the dangers of hard drugs.This took place while I was in secondary school.Though the movement was short lived because of lack of capacity on the part of leadership and members.Afterwards,I enrolled in the university where I studied Applied Microbiology.In the university,I became the founder of another youth focused organisation known as Youth Integration on Rights Health and Eradication of HIV/AIDS.(YIRHEA).
Thus,in my early stage of university education,I joined Rotract club chapter in my school because of the humanitarian nature of their activities and also became a member of National Youth Network on HIV/AIDS,population and Development in Nigeria (NYNETHA).Then in the late stage of my university education, that is in 2007,I was trained as a peer educator by Hope Givers Organisation on Cedpa Positive Living project going on presently in Anambra state Nigeria.It was during this training that my abstract titled 'Introduction of Reproductive Health Education in Secondary schools in Nigeria as a means of contributing to national response to HIV infection' was accepted for presentation in Nigeria HIV/AIDS summit held in Abuja Nigeria in 2007.Then I was awarded scholarship by National Agency on AIDS Contol( NACA) in Nigeria to participate and present my paper in the summit.In the month of june of the same year,I was invited for another presentation at University of Portharcourt by International Research Insititute Nigeria on the title "Global strategies on HIV mitigation" .
I am a participant of many local,national and international workshop,trainings and conferences.Presently.I am the only Nigerian representative on Regional Youth Training on Conflict,Peace andDevelopment held in November 2007,participant on 3rd Africa Conference on sexual health and rights held in February 2008 in Abuja Nigeria on a the scholarship awarded by Action Health Incorporated (AHI) and Alumni Youth Sexuality Institute held also in February in Abuja Nigeria in 2008.
In addition,I am a member of many local,national and international organisation.For instance,I am a member of NYNETHA,Association of reproductive health professionals USA, SecretaryNational Youth Council of Nigeria Aniocha LG chapter and Centre for Peace Initiative in Africa Nigerian Peace Ambassador,member International AIDS Society(IAS),Member World Association on Reproductive Health (WAS).
To include,a year after my training as a peer educator by Hope Givers organisation in Cedpa Positive Living Project, I was hired as their present Project Co-ordinator on Positive Living Project.I am still working with them till date. Presently I am also nominated as an abstract reviewer for International Conference on AIDS and Sexually transmitted infections in Africa(ICASA) 2008.
