About me
I am Yeoh Chen Chow, a Malaysian who is studying in Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. I have my primary and secondary education in Malaysia, in particular in Penang state. My high school was Jit Sin High School in Bukit Mertajam. After which, I was offered ASEAN Scholarship to further education in A Level at Raffles Junior College, Singapore. After a few months there, I got offered a Public Service Department Scholarship by Malaysian Government to further my studies in the United States.
I have been greatly involved with www.recom.org (The Worldwide Malaysian Students Network) and www.internshipasia.com (Internship Asia). ReCom.org was founded by Syamsul Hasran and Mohd Yusuf from University of Southern California to pool resources among Malaysians worldwide, where we debate on various issues concerning Malaysia and the world, as well as networking, online magazine (remag.recom.org), and many more! Since then, I have been spending a lot of my time (around 20-30 hours a week on the site). Recently, I have also started to spend time at www.internshipasia.com, where we try to pair up students who are looking for internship and also those employers.
On campus, I am currently the Vice President of Engineering Students Council, where it is the umbrella body of Engineering students at Cornell University. I also sit on the board of Cornell Engineering Alumni Association as the Student Representative there. Besides that, I am involved intensely at the International Students Programming Board (ISPB), where I have been Vice President for the past two years. ISPB is an umbrella organization of about 300 international students organizations on Cornell campus, as well as 3200 international students from 126 countries. We have organized events like International Food Festival, International Dance and Fashion Show, Mini World Fair, Mini World Cup, International Speakers etc.
I have also been involving in a number of international events, like I went on a 18-day trip to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Xian, Yangling, Guangzhou and Hong Kong over in July 2004 under China Synergy Program for Outstanding Youth. This is a program where they select 234 students of Chinese descendents from all over the world to embark on an 18-day journey to meet with various top government officials, business executives and other students over those cities.
I have also recently attended the Wharton Global Forum in Philadelphia, US, as well as Business Today International Conference(BTIC) in New York, US in November 2004. BTIC was founded 36 years ago by Steve Forbes, founder of Forbes Magazine and this conference takes in 190 students from all over the world, to spend 4 days with various business executives. I would be attending the International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague, Czech Republic too in January 2005.
For next year, I hope to participate in the following events:-
a) World Business Dialogue in Cologne, Germany in April 2005
b) ISC-Symposium in St.Gallen, Switzerland in May 2005
c) World Youth Congress in Scotland in July 2005
