 About Me |
I feel very lucky to be able to create, plan and execute a program, alongside my dear friend Elaine, which comprises of both practical and theoretical open-minded learning as well as encourages creativity and diversity, collaborating the ideas, strengths and passions of all team members. The year long internship focuses on fundraising and advocacy, development theory and the practical 5 week field trip where the team will work and live with a rural community in Guyana. The field project is focused on teacher training and literacy development.
My initial interest in International Development begun with the news media/ reporting angle when I was studying my Undergraduate degree in Media and Communications. I realized I disagreed with how issues and people from the ‘Third World’ were/ are represented. My first overseas grass-roots project with in 2008 with Youth Challenge in Vanuatu. After being inspired from this experience I wanted to do more and started volunteering with The Oaktree Foundation at the beginning of 2009 where I had the opportunity to be involved in an 11-month internship Our Generations Challenge, as Communications co-ordinator and traveled to Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste. I am currently studying my Masters of International Development and work as National Communications Manager for the South African & Cambodian program at Oaktree.
My interests:
I love meeting new people and sharing stories; I want to spend my whole life traveling and immersing myself in new cultures; I enjoy all things “artsy” from painting to performance to photography to film to a good book; I crave the outdoors- beach, mountains, camping, adventure- and I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie; I’m a planner but I love spontaneity; Music is both my outlet and my meditation; and my favourite thing to do is laugh.
