DOG FIGHTING
Dog fighting is a contest in which two dogs are placed in a small arena enclosed to fight each other. Sometimes they fight to death, only for the spectator’s entertaining and gambling. These dogs are specially bred, conditioned and trained to fight. The dogs used are suffering from the injuries they get during dogfight, which are often fatal. They often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion or infection. These dogs also suffer during training because many people believe that the more the dog suffers, the tougher he will become. Dogs that haven’t enough potential are usually killed by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gunshot and electrocution.
Like mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, every animal should be respected and well treated. That’s why no human should have the right to make an animal suffer, like dogs used for dogfights. The Humane society is an organization advocating animals’ rights and trying to ensure they are respect around the word. In some cases, making a donation can help them. In other cases, like dog fighting, they encourage people to write letters to the medias to increase public awareness.
Dog fighting is illegal in many countries, but there are still some countries where dogfights are legal. In the countries where it’s illegal, the penalties aren’t always the same. In some countries, the penalties for dog fighting are very dissuasive while in other countries they’re not severe enough to have any real effects.
What I planned is to take action by creating a petition against dog fighting on ‘’taking it global’’ website. The main issue is that it’s not illegal in every country and sometimes the penalties are too soft. These two facts explain why there are still so many dogfights in the word. Where dog fighting is forbidden, people using dogs to do these kinds of contests just change country to keep on going. Sometimes, they don’t even need to do this. If the penalties are not severe enough, they just don’t care about it and consider it a part of their business. In both cases, the problem isn’t solved because dogs are still suffering. Signing a petition against dog fighting is a good way to make a difference for these dogs. They don’t need us to give money to some organization trying to fight against dogfights because, most of the time, we can’t do anything against it. What those dogs really need is to be protected. They need laws to ensure their rights are respected and to ensure they are well treated. If laws were protecting their rights with very severe consequences in every country, there would be fewer dogfights around the world, which means less dogs suffering. This petition’s goal is to show people that dog fighting isn’t concerning a few countries. Every country is involved, so every country has to take action. By signing this petition, we can make a difference because we can show other people, other countries and other governments that we don’t accept it and that we want it to change. Please sing this petition for all the dogs that are currently suffering from bad treatments due to dogfights.
