About Me   About Me
HI everybody !!
I'm eighteen years old.My interests are varied. I love sports, especially volleyball and horseback riding. I listen to different kind of music, but my favorite groups are Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand. I'm an optimist person and I never give up ! I guess my main focus in life lies working towards changing the world around me. My biggest dream is to travel in South Africa to help underprivileged people.

My goal is to sensitize people to the cause of AIDS and HIV.
Aids and HIV: two words, one thought….
According to people, these two terms are associated most of the time with a negative idea, but people don’t know the gravity of this infection. People have never been really informed about this important issue. Since its discovery in 1981, Aids has been kept too much under silence and taken lightly. I’ve always been concerned by the cause of Aids because I’m particularly affected by human diseases which is why I’m studying in pure and applied science. By my knowledge learned from this program, I could help those suffering from illness and increase people’s awareness. With this pamphlet, I hope people will be sensitive and therefore they will be able to stand up to support this cause. At first, HIV, known as a virus, will cause Aids to a person by damaging his immune system cells until his immune system can no longer fight off infections. Usually, it would be possible to cure these infections. According to the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (2007), about 33.2 million people are infected with HIV worldwide. Totally alarming!! Many people have always thought that AIDS only affected the African continent, but it’s wrong: since the beginning, HIV has affected people all over the world. Though, 67% of people living with HIV are in sub-Saharan Africa, at the end of 2005 they counted about 58,000 people in Canada living with HIV. More than 25 million people have died of AIDS since 1981. Most people said that this infection has decreased due to the easier access to information, but the situation has become worst. The number of people living with HIV has risen from around 8 million in 1990 to 33 million today, and is still growing. The most devastating effect on the world’s youth due to the HIV/AIDS virus, who is spread all around the world, has been the alarming increase in the number of children and young people who have been orphaned by the disease, especially in Africa. Moreover, African orphan who are estimated to 14 million don’t have access to adequate nutrition, basic health care, housing and clothing and they take on more responsibility to earn an income, produce food, and care for family members. The main way to stop children becoming infected lies in the prevention mother-to-child-transmission of HIV. Aids will certainly become a critical problem if nobody is proactive. By the time people the government applies serious measures; HIV will have increased in a significant way. It is time to unite our voices and stand up to support the cause of Aids. There are many different alternatives for taking action. Since 1988, the world Aids day that took place the first of December, has permitted to people to show their solidarity for the cause. People who are interested can gather to raise awareness of the global epidemic of HIV and AIDS. Many organizations, such as Avert and Dignitas, have always helped the cause of Aids, but they need people to contribute. Avert’s organization accepts donations that will help them to continue their extraordinary project in southern Africa, particularly in areas where there are extremely high rates of HIV infection. Since many years, Dignitas international has offered to people to participate at events, to volunteer, to join the race for dignity challenge that takes place in Toronto and much more. From now on, nobody can ignore this issue. We need to unify and to support with pride and conviction this important cause named AIDS.
