Have you ever noticed that people are constantly looking for new things to buy? Take a few moments to think about it, can you describe yourself as a big consumer? Why the society is that much oriented toward the over-consumption? For example, a few years ago it was not every family that possessed a television. Does this world-wide phenomena is bad or good? As a young adult myself, I am well placed to understand this phenomenon.

First, teenagers and young adults are beginning to work on weekends. Now that they have money, they feel more free and independent. They want to have responsibilities, now that they are legally adults. I said legally because I think that to be an adult, you must have a great consciousness of the consequences and you must have experiences of every sort. You should not be an adult only because you are eighteen, unfortunately legally yes.

One side, People like to show other that they have money by buying everything they want. On the other side, they want to have everything for themselves: Their computer, their cell phone, their television, their car, instead of sharing with their parents. People are constantly judging others. If you want to be looked as normal, you must be like others. As I said, being a young adult myself, I feel this phenomenon every day. For example, at college, every student has a car. I feel like I am the only one who doesn’t. To be "normal" again, I will have to buy one too! The same pattern happens for every step of teenagers' and young adults' life. At high school, it was the cell phones, now it is the car, later it will be moving into apartment.

Then, I think that this phenomenon is not that bad. If you look at it with an economist eye, you would see that the economy is growing up with years. To have a strong economy, the money has to move between government and citizen. If citizen don't spend money, how will it return to government, then factories, etc. I think that people are calling our consumption level "Over-consumption" only because it is higher than before.

Finally, I don't think it is dangerous to spend money, as long as you’re sure to be able to pay next month. It is important for your development to make experiences of work, and have responsibilities like monthly payments. Those thing will learn to young adults to become adults, and not only legally.
