Network Movement for Youth and Children Welfare Sierra Leone is an up-coming civil society organization that works towards youth and children welfare. NMYCW-SL was established in 2004 to develop and implement programmes that help alleviate the suffering of children and youths affected by deny of their Economic Social and Cultural Right(Human Rights) such as education, water and sanitation, food etc. Networking with active youth activists and human right defenders in Bo, Kenema, Kono, Makeni, Moyamba and Freetown. Founded by Hajie Bah a human right and youth activists that has experiences in Violence and human suffering in Sierra Leone civil war also come from the most depress community in Freetown, for the past Five years has been active in advocating for youth and children in Sierra Leone. Where we have been working with positive organizations in Sierra Leone, such as forum of conscience, center for coordination of youth activists,Ministry of Youth & Sports etc. Hajie Bah was elected as Public Relation Officer (PRO) for West Zone Youth Committee as part of the formation of the National Youth Council (NYC) also elected me as Mobilizing and Organizing Officer for freedom of information coalition-Sierra Leone (FOIC-SL)etc. We are member to some coalition and working with local institutions. Looking for international partnership.NMYCW-SL is a member to serveral coalition such as Freedom of Information Coalition Sierra Leone(FOIC-SL), Freetown Human Right Committee, Global Call to Action Against Poverty coalition in Sierra Leone(GCAP), Coalition of community youth animators on HIV/AIDS(CCYAHA) Campaign for Just Mining(CJM-SL)Democracy-Sierra Leone(D-SL). Vision: The welfare of children and youths to be recognize and there needs been address. Aims To bring together children and youths to take collective and practical action to enhance there human rights, thereby creating and enabling environment for the development of children and youths in Sierra Leone. Programmes of our Organization with description on each: - Research and Information Sharing -peace building -Training -Advocacy -Youth and children resources friendly center Research and information sharing: our Organization works closely with institution on Research towards sanitations, access to Justice, peace and conflict resolution etc, these information been used by youth & children in our center and we used electronic media to share some of these information’s. Peace Building: We normally use sports to build peace between community, schools and clubs. Training annually: we organize training on civic responsibilities, health issues and engage other partner organization to allow our dropout youths to enter their training skills center free of cost. Advocacy: We engage in diverse activities, include face-to-face meetings with children youths and duty bearer, and engage print and electronic media, sensitization and education that would help in the dissemination of the right and responsibilities of children and youths also disseminate the National Youth Policy, Sierra Leone Child Right Bill, convention of the right of the children and freedom of information act Youth and children resource friendly center Due to financial constraints we only able to setup one resource center at Kroobay Community Freetown are a slum community in the city of Freetown. It is inhabited by people most of whom have emigrated from the rural and periurban areas high populated due to the post rebel war. The resources center provides books, newsletters, newspapers, black board and teachings on civic responsibilities also monthly film shows for members of the center. Thanks go to Forum of Conscience/TRC Working Group, CCYA, SDI and IYF for providing some materials for the center. Upcoming events - Dissemination of the newly passed child right bill and national youth policy not yet pass in parliament but abducted within parliament. -Statement on progress towards achieving the M.D.G’S in Sierra Leone focusing on water, sanitation, environment and housing to be published on 07/07/07. -Tree planting in three communities, Kroobay, Kingtom, and Mabella. -Celebration of right to know day 28th September 2007 radio discussion programmes and sharing leaflet nationwide focusing on disseminating the child right bill and the national youth policy.
