At age 17, call him networking extraordinaire but don’t call him crazy – Riddle has used social networking to collaborate with professionals and creatives around his hometown and across the nation. Through connecting with presenters at TEDxGreenville and helping to create the world’s first immersive Xperience, Ben has caused many to realize that social barriers only exist if you create them. As a social innovator and youth leader, Riddle has proven that collaborative efforts have the power to build strong communities. Serving as Student Body Co-President of Mauldin High School, Ben builds networks that unite students and businesses with local non-profits. Over the course of his high school career, Ben has chaired events that benefit Mauldin’s annual Spirit Week , helping to raise over $845,000 for Upstate charities. Through partnering with Senior Action and a host of other sponsors, Ben created the Senior Sweethearts Charity Ball, an annual celebration that bridges the generational gap between teens and senior citizens. As an active proponent of health, wellness and sustainability, Riddle sparked a movement that brought healthier foods to school cafeterias across Greenville County. Ben helps to create healthy offerings for students across the Upstate by working with the school district’s culinary specialist (his recipe for granola was adopted on the menu atop a yogurt parfait). Riddle’s efforts to have been featured in Edible Upcountry magazine, in local news stories and on ETV’s Your Day radio program. Through immersing in all that Greenville has to offer, Riddle inspires his peers to follow suit. Recently nominated as Class Speaker of Youth Leadership Greenville Class 5, Riddle is working with Greenville Forward to develop HeadStrong, a movement that seeks to end apathy and encourage social engagement by allowing teens to make their mark by inspiring the future. In his free time, Riddle is an avid runner, actor and locavore; Ben enjoys befriending local farmers and artisans and also enjoys volunteering at the Triune Mercy Center with his family and church. Currently, Ben is networking with likeminded individuals across the nation in a collaborative effort to bring new ventures to Greenville. Riddle claims that his faith, family and community are his inspiration and foundation for action. |
