Diseases like HIV/ AIDS, malaria and diarrhoea are common. Overall this affects the survival rate among children and other problems like alarming education and illiteracy levels and gender imbalances. A large proportion of the population is made up of widows and orphans – commonly called “street boys” or “street girls” whose families are unable to take care of them. I am currently the Coordinator of Rwanda Village Concept Project (www.rwanda-vcp.org) a non governmental student run organisation that is striving to tackle these issues by improving the health and the living standards through increased self reliance and responsibility. I am also a medical student (alum’ 2009) at National University of Rwanda I am an Action Partner with Oxfam international Youth partnership 2007-2010 and I am working to alleviate poverty in my community, empower women, fight against HIV/AIDS and other epidemics and easy access to health and education. I am also working with Let the Little Children Come to Me Orphan Center to support Children that have been affected/infected by HIV/AIDS and orphans of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. In 2007, I received the Medical student price by the Royal College of Paeditrics and Child health. |
