Originally from Mqanduli in the rural Eastern Cape in South Africa, Azola has been working on addressing the gendered dimensions of HIV/AIDS since 2002. She started AIDS activism while a student at CPUT Belville campus when she joined the peer education programme. Since then she has worked with DramAid as a health promoter educating university students across South Africa about HIV and AIDS. She coordinated the implementation of the Men as Partners programme at CPUT Belville supervising a group of 50 student peer educators from 2003-2005.
