About Me |
My name is Andrew Wilson Bell, born 5 April 1980 and raised in Brights Grove, Ontario, Canada. I have a mother and father that are still happily married, two older brothers that are both married and one niece.
I graduated from high school in 1999 and moved to Toronto to take civil engineering at Seneca College. After 1 year I decided it was not for me and proceeded to work as a temp at the Molson Brewery for 2 years before being laid off. I tried door to door sales for 3 months and realized this was not for me either. I had joined the army reserves as an armored crewman in 1997 and trained 1 weekend a month, 1 night every week and throughout the summers for 6 years. I changed trades to Resource Management Support Clerk in 2003 and worked full time with the brigade and regiment. I volunteered to serve in Afghanistan in 2006, was accepted, started training Sep 2006, deployed Feb 2007 and arrived back home in Sep 2007 realizing that I wanted to go back as a civilian. I applied for a recruiter position with NATO at ISAF HQ in Kabul Afghanistan, got the job and initiated my transfer to the Supplementary Reserves just in case I wanted to continue serving with the Canadian forces after I was done. After 1 year of recruiting I wanted a change and decided to apply for financial assistant position which I was hired for. In the summer of 2009 I realized it was time to come home even though I didn’t know what I was going to do once I got back.
Since coming home I have spent a lot of time with family and friends and was convinced by my cousin to volunteer with YCI since I had shown a lot of interest in children and world issues. Over the past 3 years I traveled to Japan, Thailand, Maldives, United Arab Emirates, Tanzania, Egypt, Israel and Cyprus. I enjoy traveling, experiencing new cultures and plan on trying to see and experience as much of the world as I can. I’m an avid diver, enjoy all sports, playing games and trying everything at least once.
