About Me |
I am a graduate of the University of Washington in Comparative Religion. In January I begin a Master's Program, at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, with an emphasis is Ethics and Social Theory. My hobbies and interests include everything under the Sun; I consider myself a genuine "Renaissance Man." I am passionate about life, living it as authentically and meaningfully as possible.
Faith is a cultural lense through which we view and interract with individuals, or things. It is becoming increasingly apparent that religion does matter. Increased globalization brings familiarization with other traditions, all of which may have aspects and commonalities of merit. It is possible to learn from other traditions in order to search for viable alternatives, whatever that synthesis may be.
Religion, in its fundamentalist manifestations, is a major cause for world conflict. Any tradition's apprehension to open and peaceful problem solving, and sharing of faith can only stymie progression in sustainibility dialogue. Ignorance is the biggest hurdle we face. We must promote education, in the needed arenas (interfaith included), in order to combat chauvinism and fundamentalism, and nurture things, such as, understanding, respect, acceptance, and in the very least, empathy.
Apprehension to change is a basic human condition. We love to objectify the world around us, and wrap ourselves in comfort. In order to make a change and be authentic (to leave an old way behind and enter a new one), we must be open to information from a myriad of poles, discuss and debate it with openess, and then deliberate appropriately. However, that deliberation must be open to discussion, revision, and change.
