Asian Study Center for Peace & Conflict Transformation – ASPECT is an academic and policy-oriented non-government, non-partisan and non-profit institution registered with the Government of Nepal. Committed to peacebuilding and conflict transformation, it is being established with the vision of building peaceful, democratic societies in order to fully realize and respect peace, justice and human rights. We saw the need for an action-oriented educational movement for peacebuilding, equality, and social justice in South Asia and thus ASPECT was born. THE VISION The vision of ASPECT is to develop and articulate the experiences of people working for peace, human rights, democracy and justice; building on theory through practice and experience; and providing expertise in a consistent and effective manner throughout Asia. ASPECT will excel in peace building and conflict transformation training and research, bridging the gap between academic research and the wealth of experience which exists on the ground. Rooted in a network which will bring together the work and experience of individuals, groups and organizations across the region, ASPECT will enable more efficient and coordinated peace work to flourish. It is hoped that while starting with training programs, ASPECT will be able to develop a core international training as well as Masters Program which can take into account the context and issues relevant to the region, while also ensuring cross-cultural sensitivities are addressed. VALUES ASPECT is underpinned by a commitment to values that are integral to a sustainable future for humankind: diversity, inclusiveness, justice, cultural sensitivity, mutual respect, non-violence, and environmental sensitivity. |
