What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal - Albert Pike There are about 7 billion humans on Earth. We are part of this enormous community and differentiate ourselves from it is not such an easy thing. It is really difficult to “come out of the mass” and to be recognized as an individual that matters. Some people are known worldwide for different reasons such as an invention that revolutionized the world but some others are simply known because they helped in making this world a more peaceful and safe place to live. They left a legacy… Some will say that you have to live everyday like it is your last and not to think about the future or the past. I personally think that a great life is a virtuous life in which you helped and changed positively other people’s lives. What the world thinks of you is really important because it is what is going to represent you when you will be looking down at us. It is going to be your legacy to the world. The biggest question you can ask yourself at the end of your life is: did I make a difference and will the world remember me? My main goal in life is to answer a big “yes” to this question. I think that the biggest difference you can make in someone’s life is to save it. In other words, if you save someone’s life, he’ll remember you and he’ll be grateful forever. Something that is even bigger than saving someone’s life is to find a cure to an important disease. Millions of people are dying each year of AIDS. If I was to contribute to the discovery of a cure for AIDS in my life, it would be the equivalent of saving millions of lives per year and my legacy would be even bigger. What difference will you make? What will you do to be as virtuous as you can? Will the world remember you when you won’t be there anymore? What will stand as your legacy? Think about these questions and you’ll help making this world a better place to live. I am Antoine Giard, I’m studying to become a doctor. The world will remember me because I will have saved many human lives; I will have made a difference; I will have left a legacy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfH49VE8P00
