After completing Secondary School (Aggrey Memorial High School) in 2004, I was given the opportunity to work as Computer Lab Assistant in the schools I.C.T Department for the 2004 / 2005 Academic year due to my hard work and dedication as a prefect (Class Prefect / SRC General Secretary)and also my interest in the field of ICT. It was through this opportunity I got connected to the internet facility and Interacted with people like Attila Szabados (Co-ordinator of Humanist Movement Project - Hungary), Anthony Barcello Barley of Repect Interlectual Club (Budumbura Camp - Ghana), Jessica Rimingtin founder and President of ONE WORLD YOUTH PROJECT - U.S.A..Just to mention a few. I was really moved by the great works these people were doing for the youth worldwide and as a youth myself I decided take it upon mysllf to set up a youth organisation here in my community and country which share the same interest to that of my friends. So with advise from my boss and a couple of experience youth activist, I formed an organisation known as Simba Youth Club on November 2004 and for the past years all has been well and we believe as being part of GYAN, we can gain more knowledge in our quest to empower the youth for Cultural Exchange / Community Development. (This is a little about how I got this youth activity) Some of the events Simba Youth Club has participated and hosted include; 2006: Hosted a One World Youth Conference, held in Cape Coast. 2006: Join the SAND WATCH PROJECT, which is being organised by UNESCO and an active member. 2007: April 20th, hosted UN-MDG Awareness Conference in my community. 2007: July 25th - August 1st, Co-host a One World African Youth Summit (The First to be held in Africa) which witnessed participants from 7 African countries (Nigeria, Liberia, Ethiopia, Tanzania etc. and 6 delegates from the U.S.A (One World Youth Project, USA Staff) and other dignitries from the British Council, UNDP etc. 2007: October 17, hosted a Stand Up Event Against Poverty in Accra and Cape Coast with support from a sister youth organisation (Young People We Care) to which we had 3502 people Standing Up in Support against poverty. Full information will be showcased on our website which is currently under-contruction. Greetings to you all from Simba Friends and wish the GYAN Family all the BEST.
